Karis Drives the Big Rig
Karis had a great time sitting in the driver's seat of Papa Les's Bluebird coach. I did worry that she would accidentally change some setting or pull some lever we didn't notice and mess something up. But they said she couldn't hurt anything so we let her sit and tug on the steering wheel.
Just think, in about 13 years she will be sitting behind a steering wheel to actually drive something! It seems like such a long way off, but I'm told it will pass in the blink of an eye...

Joe Huber Farms
We had Papa Les & MorMor visiting this weekend. Under the suggestion of Grandpa & Grandma we went to a place called Joe Huber farms for lunch. They were having hay rides, a pumpkin patch, little petting zoo with goats, a playground with assorted activities you could pay for, and many other activities for the family. We went mainly for the lunch, though we did hit the swings and slide.
Karis had fun on the swing, but I think her favorite thing was the slide. She had her Grandpa Jim, or Papa as she calls him, helping her up the ladder and playing catcher at the bottom of the slide. She went down over and over until she tired him out I think.
She also fed the goats a little. She was to scared to do it on her own but did it a couple of times with help from mommy. It was a beautiful day out, though a little windy. We took some photos by the pond and Karis had a grand time throwing pebbles into the water, watching the water rings and hearing the "kerplunk". I look forward to coming back with the girls next year, when they both can enjoy it even more.

Four Generations of Jensen/McConnells
We are blessed that Karis and Katie have the opportunity to know their Great-Grandfather, "Papa Les". We try to take the four generation photos every chance we get. This is the first time that Papa Les got to meet Katie.
Karis is still adjusting to being a big sister. She doesn't like it when she calls for mommy and is told that Mommy is busy with Katie right now. She is frequently told that mommy can't come right now because mommy is feeding Katie. So, more often than not, Karis now wants mommy to help her eat/ feed her with a spoon or fork. I say, she's just 2 years old, and if this makes her feel nurtured and cared for, so be it. I will feed her. But I will continue to encourage her to feed herself with a spoon of fork as well.

Mums the Word...Chrysanthemums that is
This last spring I begged Andy for some mums to plant in front of the house. Karis "helped" me crawl around planting them while I was off my right foot. She loved helping me water them during the summer. Though I have a sneaking suspicion that what she really loved was getting wet herself!
Finally, we get to see the fruits of our labors. Karis loves to go around beheading the flowers, then hand them to me saying "no-no, no-no". I hope that gardening is something she will learn to love and we can do it together. We'll see though. Much as I love it now. I hated it as a kid! I'll start her growing fun things early on, and not only have her spreading fertilizer and weeding. Hopefully she will have fun. Zinnias are colorful and easy to grow. We'll start with those I think.

I Want My Sister!
About 6 hours after Katie was born, Grandma & Papa came to see Katie and brought Karis to the hospital to meet Katie. This is how she reacted. She saw Grandma holding Katie and immediately held her arms out for Katie. When Papa was holding Katie, she began saying, "Hold, Hold" and reaching for Katie.
Finally Daddy sat down and held both of his girls to let Karis get a look at Katie and help Karis hold her for the first time. It was so very sweet.

Share? What's Sharing?
While in the hospital visiting her new baby sister Katie, Karis became taken with her old carseat which is now Katie's. She loved to sit in it and pull the shade down over herself. We tried to get her to let Katie have her stuffed duck as well. That didn't go over too well! Karis is not used to having to share HER stuff for any length of time. She will share after some coaxing. I'm glad that we spent time with her cousins this summer and she was introduced to the concept of sharing toys then. I think that by the time Katie gets old enough to really play with toys, Karis will be a little more ready to share. But for now, at day 4, she just isn't quite there yet!
