Stormy Weather at the Beach

Karis loved the beach. It rained 80% of the time we were at the beach so we ended up leaving early. But we enjoyed the time we were there enough to know that we must go to the beach again. I think I will choose somewhere with warmer water and a gentler surf.

The water was quite chilly so we didn't spend a lot of time in it. We did actually swim" one time for about 5 minutes. With my being 6 months pregnant, Iwas concerned about losing footing in the surf. Also lue tinged lips and chattering teeth aren't a good look on a toddler! She loved digging in the sand with her cousins. One day her uncle Todd brought a kite to the beach and she was fascinated. It is just too bad that the storm rolled in about 20 minutes later.

We headed back to the house where Mommy & Karis played in the rain. What fun, teaching her the joy of stomping & splashing in the puddles. Uncle Bob took lots of candids and short movies of the kids with his digital camera. In the afternoon the kids loved looking at the images. What a wonderful age of technology we live in...

Karis First Day at Beach

Karis and I decided to take a trip to the East Coast to visit my family. We were disappointed that Andy couldn't join us for the whole trip, but were glad that he did come for a few days at the end. We joined my brother Bob and his family for a 5 day week at Dewey Beach, DE. Well, due to the weather, RAIN, we went home a few days early but still got to spend a few overcast hours on the sand. I was excited for Karis to get to spend time with other kids. She is usually with just me all week, with some contact with other kids every Sabbath at church. Her cousins are Ming, almost 3 years old and ZhenZhu who is about a year old. After a little bit of a rocky start between Ming and Karis, things mellowed out well.

Karis's first experience with the beach came after a long drive and not enough nap time. She was a little fussy to begin with. She loved all the sand, but wasn't totally comfortable with the surf. we played in the sand for a while and then headed down tot the water. She enjoyed standing with me holding both hands while the water washed up over her feet. I think that next time we go to the beach, i would like it to be warmer water and a little less rough. The Atlantic coast is a little cool and rough.

The Three Musketeers

We stayed at mommy's friend's house. Karis had a great time getting to know her Aunt Barb. They had a wonderful time playing together. Aunt Barb took her to Sabbath School and helped entertain her for Karis's first time in the sanctuary for the church service. Karis did really well for just over an hour when we went out in the foyer to let off some toddler steam.

Aunt Barb also took Karis to a playground near her house where she got to play in her first sandbox. Hmm, maybe we can talk her into moving near us.

Adventures in Playgrounds

Our city here in Kentucky has several nice parks I'm told. I intended to take Karis to the park a lot. I just haven't reached that goal! We took Karis to the park today for the first time. Karis liked the swings a lot but didn't quite know what to think of the tunnel. We finally got her to crawl through the tunnel by having Andy take her to one end and have her crawl through the tunnel to me at the other ned. She did it once and that was all it took for her to lose her hesitancy. She went back and forth between us with abandon. Now I just need to find a playgroup so she can learn to play with other kids at the playground. Eventually we want to build some sort of playset in the backyard. Then we won't have to drive 15-20 minutes to get to the park!
