Karis in Chinese Outfit
This last winter, Andy's parents took a 3 week trip to China. They brought back a cute little outfit for Karis. I tried to get her to pose nicely with it on, but she was much too interested in the grass, dandleions, twigs, and palstic pots in the back yard to sit still for me. I think she looks adorable in the out fit though.

Karis's First Trike
Karis's Gandma Jan bought her a little tikes Tricycle. Karis likes sitting on it. And dragging it around. She doesn't try to "ride it" in the classic sense very much. She mainly drags it from one room to another. I'm sure that she will soon be scooting all over the place on it. Though in her defense, the wheels tend to drag across the linoleum rather than turn...

Karis Colors in a Sunset
I finally bought some crayons for Karis to start coloring with. I put the paper on the floor and give her about 3 crayons at a time. She colors some on the paper but inevitaby ends up coloring on the kitchen floor. Thank goodness it cleans easily.
I was cooking supper and keeping an eye on her coloring and just loved the light streaming in through the back door that faces the west. I just had to take a picture of her. What you don't see is about 15 minutes later when I looked at her an saw that her mouth looked kind of blue. You guessed it, she ate about 1/4 of the blue crayon!

Karis First Swing at Park
We took a drive down to TN today to pick up some filing cabinets Andy won in an auction. On the way back home we stopped at a local park to give Karis a chance to play and stretch her legs from being in the carseat for so long. It was really hot and the playground had pebbles as it's covering, increasing the heat even further. We put Karis in a swing for the first time. She didn't quite know what to think of it. You can see it in her face. I'm sure she will love it in time. I look forward to taking her to the park more when my foot is better...

Karis in the Driver's Seat
Part of Andy's job with his parent's is to mow the grass around their various properties. They have a commercial mower which makes the job much easierand faster. He will do our lawn and his parent's lawn as well. It's a wonderful thing. It does our 1 acre in about 45 minutes or so. Andy actually doesn't mind mowing our lawn now!
When he comes by our house to mow, Karis and I like to go out and sit on the porch or deck and watch him. He likes to give Karis a ride on it as well. Of course, this is done with the mowing blades turned off. This particular day he let Karis "drive it". She wasn't too sure about it at first, btu i think she had fun. The little boy across the street was green with envy though. He kept coming further and further out in the yard to watch. I think he would have loved a chance to drive it!

Karis Plays Hide and Seek
Karis received this flag blanket from friends for her first birthday. She was playing "Where's Karis?" with it tonight after eating her dinner. She'd hide under it and wait while we ask "Where's Karis?", then pull it off for us to say "There she is!" She covers up with it when she watches her DVD's as well. She loves playing with it.

Karis, Queen of the Pinecones
![]()
We went on our first picnic of the season today to Bernheim Forest. It was a beautiful day. The forsythia and cherry trees were blooming beautifully. The rest of the plants were just coming out. We and Andy's parents walked along the paths and stopped in the shade of a tree to rest. Karis started bringing mommy pinecones. she must have trekked back and forth 20 times. Then she started taking them to daddy, grandpa and grandma in turn.
She eventually got tired of that and started to explore. She would actually go pretty far away from us before we would call her back. Her Grandpa predicted that though she would walk away, she wouldn't get out of sight of Mommy. He was wrong! She walked around a 3 foot wall where we couldn't see her. We called to her but she didn't come back. When Daddy walked over to get her, she was happily exploring all on her own. I guess I should be happy we have instilled confidence in her. Just proves how close an eye we need to keep on her!

Little Plant Thief
Now that it is getting nicer outside, plants are starting to show up in Home Depot, Lowes, and Walmart. At this point the selection is fairly sparse. I wanted to get a headstart on my planter boxes for the back deck. So I bought some dusty miller and wave petunias. I started planting my boxes.
I was focused on what I was doing. I kept trying to keep Karis busy by sending her out into the backyard to pick the dandelions, something she loves doing. Nothing doing, she wanted to be right there with Mommy, digging in the dirt, moving plants around. If I turned my back on the 6 packs of plants, she would carry them off! Looks like we have another plant lover in the family...

Who took my baby and left this little girl?!
Karis now has enough hair to put some up in pigtails. I think it is so cute. But it definately makes her look more like a little girl and less like a baby. It's harder to do than the Pebbles look.
Karis doesn't quite sit still for it and her hair is so fine. While I am trying to put it up, she is moving her head so much you'd think she was watching a tennis match! Andy still wants me to cut her hair, but I just don't want to start with the whole Bang thin yet...
