My Little Climber
We had a couple of paint cans holding the baby fence in place. Karis decided they were the perfect thing to stand on so she could watch Daddy on the back deck. We tried blocking them by putting a chair in front/over top of them. Didn't take her long to just pull the chair out and clamber back up! She is going to be a climber...

Merry Christmas!
Christmas was an uneventful day here. Sadly, a tad anticlimatic. I wish we could have been in a house full of family. Oh well, next year... Merry Christmas and Happy New Year from the cutest little elf you ever saw!

Santa Hats 2004
Christmas Eve was spent with Grandma & Granpa McConnell in Kentucky. We have a tradition of taking a photo with the santa hats every year we have Christmas together. I don't know how thrilled Andy's parents are about it but I like it!
Karis had a good time ripping paper off her presents and playing with the bows. We could have just wrapped up empty boxes for all she cared.

Karis in Baby Jail
When we moved in to the house, we planned on using the "Formal Dining room" as a playroom for Karis. Somehow it shifted to the breakfast nook. Probably because that way I can watch her closer while I'm cooking.
So we put the baby gate across the entry to the breakfast area. And every morning I bring karis down and she plays while I make breakfast. After breakfast we play for a while then it's nap time. After her wakes up, it's back down to the kitchen and her play area while I prepare lunch. She plays for a few hours and then it's nap time again.
We have a bin with her toys in it and she pulls them all out and plays. We also have a Little Tikes activity garden she likes to play with. She loves to throw things over the baby gate. We really need to find a new way to secure the baby gate as it is secured on one end with two paint cans with a chair in front of them to keep her from moving them. And on the other end it is secured by a stack of unpacked boxes. She has learned that if she pushes and pulls on it long enough, it will often come apart or dislodged at one end. We really need to get a different gate altogether.
We affectionately call it "Baby jail"...

Monkey See, Monkey Do
As we were packing to move, we finally got Karis a room of her own that we baby proofed and she could roam around in and make a mess of things. We put her crib and changing table in there as well. One day our friend's little girl Ashlynn came over to play while her mom talked with me and then ran some errands. I sat in the room and watched the girls for about 10 minutes then went into the next room to pack, checking up on them frequently.
One time I walked in to this scene and grabbed the camera. Karis loved to pull things off the shelves of the changing table and then climb onto the bottom shelf. She had apparently shown Ashlynn the joys of the bottom shelf. The girls were climbing on and off the shelf, putting toys on the shelf and then climbing on it to play. It was SO cute.

Little Girl Walking
She is walking! This is a picture of her actual first 5 consecutive steps... She first let go and took 2 steps to mommy. Then she let go and took 3 steps to Daddy. Next time it was the 5 steps to Daddy in the picture. She was so proud of herself. Arms raised up mouth wide open. She would almost dive into our arms.
Where did my little baby go?...snif snif

Future Mac Addict
She never had a chance, this little girl of mine. Just a year old and she already loves to play on the computer.
Andy installed a program on our laptops that allows her to play with the keyboard and not mess anything up. Unless she drools all over the keyboard or mouse, that's another story. The program is called Baby Banger. It puts up colored shapes and makes noises whenever she hits a key. You have to key in a special sequence of keys to get out of the program, ensuring she won't accidentally quit the program and wreck havoc on the laptop.
We still monitor her closely when she plays with baby banger. She has a tendancy to actually bang the keys, push too hard, and touch the screen. But it lets her feel like she is using the computer, just like mommy & daddy. I figure down the road, once she gets in school, she'll surpass us with computer know how. Then at some point in our lives, she'll install Senior Slapper on her laptop for us to play with...
