Thanksgiving in the Lone Star State
For Thanksgiving, Karis and Mommy went to Texas to visit family while Daddy decided to stay home and get somethings done around the house. We had a good flight down, as usual. Karis has been on around 20 flights in her young life. She has been good on all but 2 of them.
We had a lovely holiday, spending lots of time with friends and family. Karis got to meet several of Mommy's friends. She got a few belated birthday presents. She also gave her first kiss! She was walking around the living room of Tina's house when she suddenly leaned in to Tina's son Justin. He leaned toward Karis and Karis pressed her lips against his cheek for a few seconds, then happily toddled off.
Who knew it would start so early??! LOL

Karis the Destroyer
While packing up Karis spent a lot of time in the Baby play yard. We tried to keep most things secure and out of her reach, but didn't always succeed. After having her pulls all sorts of things off, I finally just cleared off the shelf and put a bin of her toys there. love the look of utter glee she has in pulling this off the shelf. She knows she's not supposed to!

Karis turns One Year Old
November 13th Karis turned one year old. We celebrated with friends, pizza, and a cake. I baked a maraschino cherry cake, like the one my mother used to make for me. I made one for everyone and a 6 inch one for Karis. We had the party in the apartment downstairs. I had put up a backdrop of sorts with rows of pink flamingos. There was also a large plastic sheet under the highchair which came in very handy!.
Karis loved her cake. She tasted the frosting, then smeared it everywhere. It was all over her face, on her clothes, in her hair, and of course all over the highchair. She had never had anything so sweet before and she went to town with it. After much finger painting with the frosting, I cut a small piece for her to try. She enjoyed the cake I think. But the frosting was definately her favorite! She ended up taking the cake and stuffing it down beside her in the high chair. What a mess!
She then opened her presents with a lot of help from mommy and friends. She was more entranced by the bows and paper than the gifts. After everyone left, I gave her a taste of pizza.
She tentatively took a tiny first bite. After a few seconds, she grinned. I slowly brought the pizza down again for a small second bite. But she was having none of that slow and easy stuff. She grabbed my wrist and pulled with all her might to get that pizza. It was adorable.
I can't believe my sweet little baby is a year old...
