Baby Spoon $2.99
Plastic Bib $1.99
Mommy letting me try to feed myself oatmeal...Priceless!

Tonight we hit a milestone... After letting Karis feed herself little pieces of banana, I reached for her oatmeal. Feeding her several bites I thought, "Ya know, she's gotta start sometime.". Holding the plastic spoon in her little hand, I showed her 3-4 times how to scoop up the cereal, and bring it to her mouth. Then I let go...

She didn't miss a beat. Into the bowl went the spoon, then back to the mouth fully loaded. The aim was a little off, but the enthusiasm more than made up for any lack of dexterity. She did so well. Eventually the fingers of her left hand made it into the bowl and the real fun began. She ended up with her first oatmeal facial! LOL

After some filming, daddy took the highchair out to be hosed down while mommy took Karis for her first well earned shower. A new chapter in our lives has begun. Our kitchen floor will never be the same again. Hmmm, maybe now is a good time to subscribe to the daily newspaper...

Karis Meets Her Second Cousin Rylan Z. Rasmussen

Sabbath, Sept 11th, we went to see my niece Amber, her husband Chris, and their new baby Rylan. What a cutie! I wish we had gotten a beeter picture of him. I'm afriad that we were too busy gabbing to set up a proper photo shoot!

Karis was just fascinated with this little being that was even smaller than she was. She kept crawling over to Chris, pulling herself up and looking at the baby. She liked to reach out and touch his head, and even poked him in the eye. All out of love of course!

We are looking forward to being relatively close to them and being able to watch Rylan grow up...

Karis McConnell, Future Concert Pianist Perhaps...

Great Grandpa Les's wife Elin is from Denmark and is called Mormor or Grandmother in Danish. She was wonderful with Karis and quickly became a favorite. Elin would get down on the floor and play with Karis when Andy & I needed a few minutes to accomplish things unhindered by little hands. A couple of times they sat at the piano and Elin played a few songs while Karis tentatively played along. I'm sure that as she gets older, Karis will bang the keys with the best of them!

She likes music, that much is obvious. When we play CD's and dance to the music she giggles and squeals. I look forward to seeing what instrument she is interested in learning...

Karis bonds with her Great Grandma June

We got to spend time with Karis's Great Grandma June this trip. We visited 3 times, and even stayed for dinner once. Karis charmed everyone she met at Great Grandma's place. She flirted with the residents and staff alike. Eliciting oohs & ahhs all around.

Several people said that she looked just like her Great Grandma. What do you think?

Andy chillin' with his grandpa

The reason why we made to sojourn to the sunny state of California was to look for a place to live. We are leaving the farmlands of the midwest for greener pastures (we hope!) on the west coast. It will certainly be a very big change from the last 5 years here in the heartland.

Andy and I have "gold in them thar hills"...or rather family in the hills of CA. Andy's grandfather, grandmother, and uncle live in the Glendale/Pasadena area. And I have a niece in Loma Linda and aunt in Fullerton. We will enjoy being close to family for a change since neither of us has actual family where we currently live. Though we do have honorary family here! I'm looking forward to the change, but am sad to leave some things behind. I am NOT looking forward to smog, traffic, higher cost of living, higher crime rate, earthquakes, mudslides, power outages... Why are we moving again??? Oh yes, the land of oportunity and change... We are excited at the adventures ahead of us, new jobs, new investments, a renewing of familial relationships for both of us.

Karis Climbs to New Heights

We stayed with Andy's Grandfather Les and his wife Elin. They have been so very generous in letting us use their spare bedroom when we make the trip out to California. The last time we were there was for christmas, when Karis was 5 weeks old. She is a totally different baby this time around!

The first thing she did upon being put down on the floor in the entry way, was to crawl to the staircase and begin climbing. I decided to allow her to go as far as she wanted, just keeping a hand on her back to catch her if she made any mis-steps. Wouldn't you know it, she promptly climbed up the entire staircase of about 11 steps. She's a little monkey, just like her mama used to be.

She was to make three other journeys to the top of the stairs. This one was the last one with daddy on the safety patrol. Now we just need to teach her how to descend safely...

Karis flies to CA...(I know, I know, "she must be tired"!

Karis is 9.5 months old and already she is a well traveled young lady. She has been on 16 flights as of today. And she was such a good baby on all but 2 of them. She spent the awake hours of the flights checking out the air vents blowing her hair around, watching daddy turn the lights on and off, and flirting with and charming the people around us.

We have had people tell us they have never sat next to such a good baby. Sometimes you can see it in their eyes as they walk down the aisle to their seats, "Oh no, a baby...!" But by the end of the flight they are smiling and talking to her. We are so very blessed to have such a good natured baby.

Currently we are in CA to look for a place to live and check out the nursing job situation. As many of you know, we are moving to Glendale/Pasadena CA in about a month. So we are trying to get our ducks in a row, so to speak, before we move. Wish us luck in our search...
